What is a City Center? A city center creates jobs and attracts new businesses. It contributes to the unique character of our city. The city center provides a gathering place for cultural activity and serves as a hub to connect people, cars, pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit. Listen to what people said on a CCTV special assignment - select 2007, Vision 2020 Word on the Street - (CCTV select 11/15/07).

On Tuesday, March 31, 2009, nearly 100 community members attended the third Vision 2020 open house at the conference center(view CCTV Coverage of Spring Forum ) Participants saw that maintaining a vibrant, attractive City Center is an important piece to Salem’s image and identity. They were also able to see the design of the new downtown historic building markers, help choose the movies for this summer's Movies in the Park series, experience www.SalemAlive.com - Salem's new one-stop website for events and activities, learn about new downtown restaurants and retail shops, provide input on future changes to Commercial Street to accommodate bicyclists, and provide input on locations for public art downtown.
Salem resident, Virginia Green, was recognized at the forum with the first annual Visionary Award for exemplifying the spirit of Salem’s Vision 2020. She was selected due to her unique role on the Vision 2020 Action Team and for taking the lead in projects highlighting the historic character of downtown. Green is the only Action Team member to serve as an individual (not representing a larger organization). |
