The City of Salem Police Department is a full service, world class police agency seeking currently certified police officers looking for career enhancement and development. Salem employs only those applicants who meet or exceed the highest standards.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Possess a valid police officer basic certificate, or be eligible for recertification from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training; or an equivalent certification and recent experience as a municipal, county or state police officer.
- 21 years of age upon appointment as a police officer
- Possess good communication skills
- High school graduate (or possess G.E.D.)
- Written examination
- U.S. citizenship
- Oral interview
- Excellent moral character
- Willing to work nights, weekends and holidays
- Valid drivers license
- Minimum reading and writing skills -12th grade level
- Meet or exceed minimum physical standards
- Demonstrate having made good life choices, as determined by an extensive, in depth background investigation
- Meet all applicable physical, vision, hearing and psychological examination requirements (after conditional offer of hire)
