Fairmount National Register District Nomination Information
STATUS REPORT: NOMINATION PROJECT DEFERRED
We recently wrapped up a survey of Fairmount property owners, wanting to know if they are interested in pursuing a new National Register Historic District. A total of 399 cards were mailed out inviting property owners to participate in the survey, with sixty-three (63) people responding. Only 44% of the property owners voted in favor of the City moving forward with the National Register Nomination for Fairmount. At their July 2011 meeting, the Historic Landmarks Commission recommended that the City not move forward with the nomination at this time, and that the CLG funds originally set aside for the nomination be reallocated for the historic residential toolbox fund and additional public outreach and education to other neighborhoods with potential historic districts. The City Council will be considering the HLC’s recommendation at an upcoming Council meeting.
Thanks go to those residents who participated in the survey; we value your input. Those who participated in the survey all received a two-for-one ticket to Historic Deepwood Estate and their names were placed into a drawing for tickets to other area historic attractions. Winners were announced at the HLC’s August 18 meeting.
