The Swift Water Rescue Team, located at Fire Station 5, is staffed with six Swift Water Rescue Technicians and three Rescue Boat Operators every shift. The station staffs, E-5, Boat 5, T-5, G-5 reserve E-15 and reserve M-15. The team responds to floods, boaters in distress, victims in distress, and other related water emergency and non-emergency incidents. The Water Rescue team also assists local law enforcement agencies in crime scene investigations pertaining to water incidents. The Water Rescue Team covers predominantly the Willamette River, and other small creeks and ponds within the City of Salem.
The Salem Fire Department is also a member of the Marion County Mutual Aid Water Rescue agreement. Under this agreement, Salem Fire assists other fire districts and departments by responding to water rescue emergencies on both the Willamette and Santiam Rivers.
