The Hazardous Materials Team, located at Fire Station 11, is staffed with eight Hazardous Materials Technicians every shift. The Station staffs E-11, HM-13, Decon 13, and reserve L-11. The team responds to fires, spills, and other incidents involving chemicals or toxic materials, and assists local law enforcement agencies in dealing with drug labs and bomb incidents.
The Salem Fire Department is a member of the State of Oregon’s Regional Hazmat Teams. Thirteen of these teams cover the entire State of Oregon. The Salem hazmat team's response area spans from Pacific City on the Oregon Coast, to the South end of North Lincoln Fire and Rescue, and East into Central Oregon to Prineville, Oregon. This response area covers seven fire districts and over 6300 square miles.
