GIS Products

There are five primary types of GIS products available for distribution from Salem GIS: standard maps, custom maps, digital data transfers, aerial photography, and subscription based web access.

City of Salem GIS Data is available to the public.  The rates for map products and digital data transfers are actual cost based fees, developed in accordance with Oregon’s Public Records Law (ORS chapter 192). The City does not charge for data but does charge for the time and material it takes to meet a request.

Customers receiving digital data transfers must sign a Data License Agreement (DLA), which is a legal protocol to inform users that our data is not guaranteed and is not under warranty. Additionally, the DLA restricts users from distributing and selling the data.

STANDARD MAPS

Preprinted Salem Vicinity maps are available at the Public Works Counter for $10.00.

Standard map products include commonly requested maps whose format and content do not change except for updates. A standard map may be any existing map product or may be a map that is developed through an interactive session with the customer where data content will be customer specified but design is standard. Standard map products are provided based on time and material charges, and are priced in the following way:

CUSTOM MAPS

Custom map products include maps that must be developed, designed and compiled for a specific single purpose. These products require more GIS analyst processing and design time than standard maps and will be priced individually according to the amount of time that is invested in developing the custom product, at a fee of $60.00 per hour, plus the material fee.

DIGITAL DATA TRANSFERS

Digital data transfers can occur for customers that have a need to use Salem GIS data in another system. Requests must be received in writing and the customer must sign a Data License Agreement. Export formats will vary according to customer specifications, but standards are ESRI shapefile for vector data and MrSid for raster data. Data transfers are priced in accordance with the processing time required to meet the request, the cost of the requested media, and the method of delivery.

AERIAL IMAGERY

Aerial imagery can be provided in either hard or softcopy format, in a variety of sizes, scales, dates, and resolutions. It is priced just like any other custom product, at $60.00 per hour to meet the request.

INTERNET ONLINE SUBSCRIPTION SERVICES

Public Works utility grid maps are available online for a $25.00 fee per year, per account.
