Salem Public Library offers a day of zombie-riffic fun and education as it presents, “More Brains! A Zombie Survival Drill.”
The featured event is an appearance by preeminent Zombie expert and best-selling author, Max Brooks. Considered by many to be one of the world’s foremost Zombie preparedness experts, Brooks is the author of the popular “Zombie Survival Guide,” “World War Z,” and the 2009 graphic novel, “The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks.”
The son of Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft, Brooks is a former writer for Saturday Night Live who is now completed dedicated to the cause of raising awareness on the issue of Zombie survival. Born in New York City in 1972, Brooks' introduction to the living dead began with a traumatic childhood incident, an incident he still refuses to discuss. Since that time, he has devoted much of his life to the study and development of anti-ghoul security. He is, at present, the leading Western student in the Afro-Carribean martial art of Mkunga-Lalem, the world's oldest and most effective anti-ghoul fighting skill.
"People have asked me, 'Did you write this as a metaphor for the paranoia that's sweeping the nation,'" says Brooks. "No. I'm not that smart. I'm just really scared of zombies."
His presentation, “10 Lessons for Surviving a Zombie Attack: An Evening with Max Brooks” will be followed by a question-and-answer session and book signing. Books will be available for purchase through a partnership with The Willamette Store.
Also as part of “More Brains! A Zombie Survival Drill,” Salem Public Library will offer a full day of free Zombie movies, shown in Loucks Auditorium on the big screen.
