Salem Unplugged Week and Kids’ Late Night at the Library

Salem area youth are invited to earn their way into a special night of fun by taking and keeping a Salem Unplugged pledge. Kids who take the pledge and keep their screens dark for the week of January 21-27 will be treated to:

Kids’ Late Night at the Library featuring: Once Upon a Time ...
6:30-9 p.m. Friday, January 27 on Floors 2&3 at Salem Public Library
This evening of crafts, activities, entertainment and treats for includes a special performance of rhythm and stories by Okaidja Afroso.

Snuggle Up Reading Club

Beginning Tuesday, January 10th, families can sign up to read aloud together in February for 15 minutes each day, and earn a free book to keep. Continue through the month of March and earn a 2nd book. Sign up to get your reading calendar online here or at the Children's Desk.

Snuggle Up Reading Club is made possible by the Oregon State Ready to Read grant.

Discovery Kids: Preschool Art & Science Adventures
Saturday, February 11
1-1:45 pm
Story Rooms A & B

Children ages 3-5 and their grown-ups are invited to share a story and art or science fun. No sign-ups are necessary.

Read to a Pet
2nd and last Saturday of the month
1:00 – 2:30 p.m.
Children’s Room

This program offers children a relaxing, non-threatening way to improve their reading skills. Visiting dogs and cats have been trained and certified as therapy animals by Paws for Love and are mellow and friendly. This is a drop-in program, and sign-ups are not necessary.

Creative Kids After-School Adventures
Thursday, February 16
4-5 p.m.
Story Rooms A & B

Kids in grades 2 to 5 are invited to explore their creativity and sense of innovation every third Thursday of the month. This program offers the opportunity to develop a variety of skills with different hands-on projects from carpentry to sewing, music-making and more.

Register at the Youth Services Desk. Parents are encouraged to stay for the duration of the program and join the fun.

Lego Party
Saturday, January 21, 2-3 p.m.

Ages 5 & Up

Kids with their grown-ups are invited on the third Saturday of every month for an hour of unstructured Lego play. Legos are provided. Participants only need their imaginations. No sign-ups are necessary.

Infant/Toddler Sign Language Storytime
with Dawn Prochovnic (2 sessions)

Children’s author, Dawn Prochovnic, leads an interactive infant/toddler story time that incorporates American Sign Language into play activities.
This program is sponsored by the Oregon State Ready to Read Grant.

Preschoolers and their families are invited to a special concert filled with music and movement. This program takes the place of our regularly scheduled storytimes for the day. Doors open at 10:15 a.m.
