Snuggle Up Reading Club
Families

Add sparkle to your winter by joining the “Snuggle Up!” Family Reading Club, offered by Salem Public Library.

For the eleventh year, families who read aloud together for at least 15 minutes each and every day for one month will earn a new children’s paperback book for their home library. The February Snuggle Up Club is already under way.

Sign up for the March Club online or in person at the Youth Services Reference Desk to receive your Snuggle up Reading Calendar in which you can mark the days you spend reading aloud together.

1:00 – 2:30 p.m.
2nd and last Saturday of the month

Children’s Room

This program offers children a relaxing, non-threatening way to improve their reading skills. Visiting dogs and cats have been trained and certified as therapy animals by Paws for Love and are mellow and friendly. This is a drop-in program, and sign-ups are not necessary.

Experts from area clubs and businesses share their knowledge at this annual event.

Boogie Woogie Concert featuring Rich Glauber

Loucks Auditorium

Preschoolers and their favorite grown-ups will be singing, dancing, clapping and laughing with Rich and his accordion, Sid, during this interactive musical event.

Doors open to the public at 10:15 a.m. on a first-come, first-seated basis. This program, funded by the Friends of Salem Public Library, takes the place of regularly scheduled Tuesday Storytimes.

Experimentos con libros

Experimentos con libros ofrece a las familias de los niños de tres, cuatro y cinco años la oportunidad de compartir un cuento y hacer experimentos científicos relacionados que aumentan las habilidades de alfabetización temprana que necesitan para estar listos para leer cuando entran en la escuela.  Se presenta Experimentos con libros con fondos de “Ready to Read” y ocurren cuando normalmente  tenemos “Cuentos en español para toda la familia”.

Brain Boosters

Brain Boosters and Art Starts offer families of children ages three, four and five a chance to share a story and do related creative activities that boost the early literacy skills preschoolers need in order to be ready to read and write when they enter school.  No sign-ups are necessary.

Children's Choice Book Club
Thursday, March 19, 4 - 5 pm
Location: Story Room A

Kids in grades 2 to 4 are invited to read each of the books for the 2014-2015 Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Book Club, and participate in our monthly after-school book club.

Register online, in person at the Youth Services Desk, or by calling 503-588-6088 for this group that offers lively discussion, games and crafts.

Monthly Lego Party

Every 3rd Saturday of the month, kids with their grown-ups are invited for unstructured Lego play. Legos are provided. No sign-ups are necessary.

Welcome Spring! Elementary age kids are invited to get their hands dirty planting seeds and creating garden art. We are also partnering with the Earth 411 team in kicking off their early Earth Day celebration.

Spring into Art

Ages 5 & Up

Ages 5 and up are invited to discover their inner artist by exploring a variety of open-ended art projects. All art materials are provided.

Yoga for Kids
2-3 p.m. Thursday, March 26
Story Rooms A & B
Ages 5 & Up

Be a butterfly, a tree, snake or a cat. Yoga is a wonderful practice that encourages kids to stretch and strengthen bodies and imaginations. Instructor Kate Swarm from our local Indigo Yoga Studio will lead this interactive workshop. Participants should wear comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement.
