Summer Reading Club has started!

  1. Sign up online or at the main branch between June 7 and August 6.
  2. Print out a copy of the listening/reading log for each participant.
  3. Keep track of the time spent reading or listening to stories.
  4. Participants who complete at least 10 hours of reading/listening to stories, visit the Summer Reading Club desk at the Salem Public Library beginning June 28 to claim prizes and tickets for chances to win extra special prizes in the summer prize drawings.

Read to a Pet

Children’s Room

This program offers children a relaxing, non-threatening way to improve their reading skills. Visiting dogs and cats have been trained and certified as therapy animals by Paws for Love and are mellow and friendly. This is a drop-in program, and sign-ups are not necessary.

Children's Educational Theatre Presents
Tales from Five Continents
Tuesday and Thursday, July 19 & 21 at 2 pm
Wednesday, July 20 at 7 pm
Loucks Auditorium

Local young actors perform humorous and touching folktales from Africa, the Pacific Northwest, South America, Asia, and Europe all woven together with a Cherokee fable that explains how stories came into the world.

Free tickets are available in the Children's Area at 10 a.m. the day of the performance.  Tickets become invalid 10 minutes before the performance, and empty seats are made available to others.

Once again, Richard Ritchey, “The Reptile Man,” will share fascinating information about the many reptiles and amphibians that he brings to show, including a king cobra, a rattlesnake, and a giant python!

Reminder: Due to extreme popularity, this is a ticketed event. Tickets are available beginning at 10 am the day of the show. Doors open 15 minutes before each performance. Tickets become invalid 10 minutes before the performance and empty seats are made available to others.

Registered participants in the 2016 Summer Reading Club (babies up through those entering 5th grade) who have completed 10 or more hours of reading this summer are invited to celebrate a summer of spectacular reading!

Prize drawing winners, and participants who have read at least 20 hours may pick up their prizes in the SRC Prize Book Store in Anderson Rooms A & B between 10 am and 1 pm.
