  Summer Reading Club Registration

This year, children from birth through elementary school are encouraged to “Fizz! Boom! Read!”  Summer Reading Club is an engaging way to encourage reading through the summer, and the library’s youth services staff will once again offer an array of interactive summer activities and events for area youth. Sign-ups: June 10 to August 2.

Fizz, Boom, Beat! Percussion Crafts
2 p.m. Tuesday, August 5
Anderson Rooms

Make amazing sounds as you experiment with and create your own musical instruments.

 

Henrik Bothe – Comedy Show
1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 6
Loucks Auditorium

Henrik’s chaotically funny show of juggling and comedy appeals to kids and adults alike.  If you love to laugh, check out this show, as Henrik spins ropes, juggles without using his hands, and surprises the audience.

Lego Party - Monthly
2-3pm. Saturday, August 16
Children’s Activity Room

Kids with their grown-ups are invited on the third Saturday of every month for an hour of unstructured Lego play. Legos are provided. Bring your imaginations! No sign-ups are necessary.

Fizz, Boom, Read End of Summer Reading Club Blast
2-4 p.m. Friday August 22
The Peace Plaza (between the library and City Hall) and Anderson Rooms

The end of August marks the time for Summer Reading Club participants to celebrate a summer of fabulous reading on the Library/City Hall Plaza. Registered participants who have completed at least 10 hours of reading or listening in the Summer Reading Club will be invited to join the Youth Services staff and volunteers to celebrate your achievement with a BLAST!  Those who have read 20 hours or more are invited to stop at the Library Anderson Rooms between 1 and 3:30 p.m. to choose your free book.

Read to a Pet
2nd and last Saturday of the month
1:00 – 2:30 p.m.
Children’s Area

This program offers children a relaxing, non-threatening way to improve their reading skills. Visiting dogs and cats have been trained and certified as therapy animals by Paws for Love and are mellow and friendly. This is a drop-in program, and sign-ups are not necessary.

Art Starts
Saturday, September 13
11:30 am - 12:15 pm

Art Starts offers families of children ages three, four and five a chance to share a story and do related creative activities that boost the early literacy skills preschoolers need in order to be ready to read and write when they enter school.
