The 2015 Summer Reading Club is coming soon!

This summer, children from birth through elementary school can discover their super-power during Salem Public Library's Summer Reading Club. Staff and volunteers will be encouraging readers (and listeners) up through grade 5 to READ! READ! READ! with the theme "Every Hero Has a Story" and young adults, grades 6 to high school graduates are encouraged to "Unmask!" Sign-ups begin June 2nd at the Salem Public Library Youth Services desk or online.

Summer Reading Kick-off Event – 2 Shows!
Red Yarn, Musical Puppet Show
Tuesday, June 2nd
10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. 
Loucks Auditorium

Preschoolers, homeschoolers, elementary classes are invited to gain entry to our Kick-off event by signing up online or in person for Salem Public Library’s Summer Reading Club.  This musical children’s event will make you tap your feet and wiggle!!  Doors open 15 minutes before each performance. This event replaces the regular Tuesday morning storytimes for that week.

This program is made possible by an Oregon State Ready to Read grant.

Read to a Pet
1:00 – 2:30 p.m.
2nd and last Saturday of the month
May 9 & 30
Children’s Room

This program offers children a relaxing, non-threatening way to improve their reading skills. Visiting dogs and cats have been trained and certified as therapy animals by Paws for Love and are mellow and friendly. This is a drop-in program, and sign-ups are not necessary.

 

Rhys Thomas, Jugglemania - THREE SHOWS!
Wednesday, June 24
11 a.m., 1 p.m. & 7 p.m.

JuggleMania shares the hilarity and dexterity that have taken the amazing Rhys Thomas to 30 different countries. Celebrate the heroes that created the goofy tricks and baffling feats that JuggleMania loves to share.

 

Chintimini Chamber Music Festival - Children's Concert
Thursday, June 25
3:30 p.m. - Children's Concert

Paul Bunyan: A Tall Tale with Music
Special guest storyteller David Ogden Stiers, former MASH actor, leads musicians in a fun-filled concert that tells the heroic story of Paul Bunyan. Featured musicians include: Erik Peterson and Katherine McLin of Salem on violin, Phillip Stevens on viola, Noah Seitz on cello, and Brian Johnson of Salem on double bass.

7 p.m. - Adult Concert: Haydn, Schulhoff, and Schubert

Zip! Zap! Zoom! Super Hero Crafts
Tuesday, June 30,
2:00 p.m.
Ages 5 and up 

Wear your favorite superhero costume, test your super skills, and create tools to help achieve your heroic deeds.

Monthly Lego Party
2-3 p.m. Saturday, June 20
Story Rooms A&B

Every 3rd Saturday of the month, kids with their grown-ups are invited for unstructured Lego play. Legos are provided. No sign-ups are necessary.
