Go Green with e-delivery
Public libraries are considered to be “green” simply by the nature of how they operate---we recycle books everyday by having patrons check them out multiple times.
The advantages of utilizing e-delivery of notices are many:
Notices get to borrowers faster and provide detailed information. Email notices provide a detailed account of the item(s) on the account. Automated phone notification only provides an alert that an item is ready-for-pick-up or an item is overdue.
The reminder notices. Salem Public Library currently sends out "Courtesy Notices" to borrowers who have email addresses in their library account two days before checked-out material is due back to the library. The email reminders will allow borrowers the chance to renew materials or to return them, so overdue fines can be avoided. Courtesy Notices are sent only by email.
Hold Pick-Up Notices are email notices alerting patrons that reserved items are ready for pick-up. Patrons who do not have email are notified by phone or postal mail that their holds are ready to be picked up. Reduction of the cost to the Library: Each email notice sent reduces the cost for us to send out paper notices. In turn, this will allow us to use your tax dollars more efficiently.
Environmentally friendly: Each email notice sent reduces the number of paper mailers we must use. This can eventually reduce the number of trees used to produce paper mailers. Save a tree -- register for email notification!
Parental oversight: Many parents set up their children's accounts so that the children's notices are sent to the parents' email address.
Confidentiality: A patron's email address is safe with us - we do not send 'junk' email or provide a patron's email address to any outside organization.
Please set up you email account to prevent library emails from going into a spam folder firstname.lastname@example.org.
Reminder: All email notices are a courtesy, fines will accrue if library materials are overdue.
