TO OBTAIN A COPY OF A SALEM POLICE REPORT 

All requests must be in writing, either in person, via mail, or via fax. Reports are only released if no investigation or prosecution is pending. We charge $15.00 per report.  Unless you are an insurance company or an attorney's office, all costs for reports must be paid prior to the report being released. Within the request you should provide: your name, address, phone number, the report type, date, location, person's involved, and case number if known.

TO OBTAIN A RELEASE ON AN IMPOUNDED VEHICLE

The Salem Police Department will only release vehicles to the registered owner(s). The owner must provide photo identification. The owner must be, or bring in, a valid driver w/their driver's license. The owner must provide current proof of insurance on the impounded vehicle and pay the $125 Administrative fee.  The owner will then be given a vehicle release to take to the tow company to retrieve their vehicle and pay any tow company fees assessed.  

TO OBTAIN A RECORD CHECK/NAME SEARCH

All requests must be in writing. The search results will provide a listing of contacts the person has had with the Salem Police Department only.  The listing will include name, incident type, date of occurrence, case number, and how the person was involved (for example victim, complainant, arrested, etc.).  A fee is charged for each search even if no record is found. Payment must be made in advance. There is a $10.00 fee per name researched.  Within the request, you must provide: your name, address, and phone number.  For the subject you want searched, you need to provide the name and date of birth.

TO OBTAIN AN ADDRESS SEARCH

All requests must be in writing. The search results will provide a listing of all contacts made at the specified address for the time period requested.  The listing will include incident type, date of occurrence, and case number.  A fee is charged for each search even if no record is found. Payment must be made in advance. There is a $10.00 fee per address researched.  Within the request, you must provide: your name, address, and phone number. 

TO OBTAIN COPIES OF PHOTOGRAPHS

All requests must be in writing. A $5.00 processing fee is charged for prints, plus $1 per page.  Digital photos on CD's cost $20.00 per CD.  Photos are only released on cases where no investigation or prosecution is pending. Payment must be made at time of releasing photos.

TO OBTAIN A VISA LETTER

There is a $15 fee for this service, which includes the name search ($10) and preparation of the letter ($5).   Payment is made in advance. Requests for a Visa Letter on one's self must be in writing, along with a copy of the subject's photo identification. The request should include the subject's full name and date of birth, and the time period they want covered in the search.

TO HAVE A DOCUMENT NOTARIZED 

The Salem Police Department does not notarize documents for the public.
