Center Street Bridge off ramp and Front Street improvement

In July of 2008, $289,334 of Riverfront Urban Renewal Funds were utilized to improve traffic flow off the Center Street bridge into downtown

A portion of the east wall was replaced with a curb and an additional 300 feet was added to the off-ramp to Court Street to improve storage and capacity in the southbound direction.

Additional landscaping, trees and irrigation were installed in the tapered section and northern area.  Results include a visually more appealing ramp which moves cars off the bridge sooner, particularly improving traffic flow during peak periods.

Traffic calming improvements completed

Traffic calming projects start

Front Street improvements began on March 2001 when Council approved planning and implementation of interim at-grade crossing improvements on Front Street.

In February 2004 the Front Street Traffic Calming Project began.  It increased the safety of pedestrians in and around the Front Street / Riverfront Park area and helped connect Riverfront Park to the downtown through physical improvements and traffic calming measures.

Some of the key improvements were narrowing of the travel lanes, improved crosswalk treatments, improved pedestrian areas in the median island, and streetscape improvements.  Axis Curb Co. of Salem began construction on February 16, 2004, and completed the project by July 2004.
