Fortis Construction Co. began construction May 21, 2007, on the Liberty and Chemeketa Parking Structures renovation.  The panels around the outsides of the structures were removed and replaced with steel cables and both were repainted.  The result is safer, brighter, better parking structures in Downtown Salem.  

Panel removal was started on the North section of Liberty on June 12, 2007, and the following week on the SE section of Chemeketa.  Work on NW Chemeketa, in front of Urban Development began July 12, 2007.   Demolition occurred at night and finish work was done during the daytime, Monday thru Thursday. 

An interesting tidbit:  Just from the NE section of Chemeketa Parkade, 210,600 lbs or 105.3 tons of material was recycled.
