Grand Opening

Construction Began

Ground Breaking

Construction of the new 30,000 square foot City of Salem Senior Center, Center 50+, at 2615 Portland Road NE was completed in September 2008 and its doors opened October 6, 2008.  The new center is located just north of its former location on Portland Road in the Hollywood Station redevelopment area.  Along with the private commercial and residential development to the north, the new Center 50+ serves as a catalyst for development in the North Gateway Urban Renewal Area.

Designs for the new facility were discussed with the Senior Center Advisory Commission and Friends of the Senior Center.  The design was shared with the local neighborhood associations: Grant, Highland and Northgate for input.  City Council considered their feedback and approved the design on April 16, 2007.  Opening bids took place on October 9th, 2007, and the Notice to Proceed was issued on October 16th .

The new facility includes a wood shop, computer lab, and lapidary.  It provides room to grow and offers more leasable space for senior service organizations.  Funds for the project included proceeds from the sale of the previous Senior Center and a grant from the Urban Renewal Agency.
