
Economic Development Division
Facilitating economic opportunities and private investment in Salem - attracting high quality, high growth and high wage employment opportunities in six of the City’s Urban Renewal Areas, as well as at the Salem Airport.
The Economic Development Division provides staff support to the Urban Renewal Agency (Agency). The division promotes awareness of economic and community development programs, services and economic incentives offered by the City of Salem to promote investment in our community.
Duties include: management of the City’s eight urban renewal areas, all projects and activities inside urban renewal area boundaries, special projects, and support to advisory boards which recommend resource allocation and project priorities to the Urban Renewal Agency and management of the Salem Municipal Airport.
Urban Renewal Agency The Urban Renewal Agency of the City of Salem is a separate municipal corporation responsible for governing Salem’s urban renewal areas. In Salem, the Urban Renewal Agency Board is constituted by the members of the City Council, with the Mayor acting as Chair. The City Manager serves as the Executive Director of the Urban Renewal Agency.
The Urban Renewal Agency meets the first Monday of the month and the third Monday of the month. To testify about an item on the Urban Renewal Agency agenda, you must sign up on the public comment list, or the public hearing sign-up sheet, before the Agency meeting begins.
