The McGilchrist Urban Renewal Area, established in September 2006, covers approximately 403 acres west of the Salem Municipal Airport (McNary Field). The urban renewal area will provide funding for improvements to McGilchrist Street SE to stimulate private redevelopment. The City's Growth Management Program requires upgrading McGilchrist Street to current City standards as a condition of development. The maximum amount of bonded indebtedness authorized under the McGilchrist Urban Renewal Plan is $11 million. The existing road conditions are a focus of the URA.
