Great Cities Have Great Parks
The Salem Parks Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote, develop, facilitate, and sustain stewardship dedicated to the enhancement of the parks of the city of Salem, Oregon. It is also affiliated with the Oregon Cultural Trust. For more information about the Salem Parks Foundation, call Betsy Belshaw at 503-370-8789. The Foundation now has its own website!
The Salem Parks Foundation has three functions:
1. Advocating on behalf of Salem parks
2. Donating funds to neighborhood parks through an annual competitive grant program
3. Collaborating with organizations or individuals to improve Salem's parks
Donations to the Foundation may be for the following uses:
1. Specific facilities or capital improvements
2. Specific programs or activities
3. Unrestricted use
4. An endowment fund
Gifts to the Foundation can be tailored to your own financial position and will usually have tax advantages.
Prior to the spending of any undesignated funds, the Salem Parks Foundation Board, working closely with Parks Operations Division, carefully considers the greatest needs. Specific donor requests are also of highest priority to ensure that contributions are used in a satisfactory and professional way.
Annual gifts can provide ongoing support for the Salem Parks Foundation. By regularly supporting parks, you are providing the Foundation dollars to improve and enrich facilities and programs. This support is greatly appreciated, as city park improvements are needed.
Recognition memorials enable individuals to commemorate an important person or event in their lives through a donation for a park bench, a mutt mitt dispenser or a tree.
Endowments provide continuous and dependable support for the Salem Parks Foundation. Endowments can be established with a one-time donation, by a planned gift or through a series of gifts. The principal is held intact and invested; the annual income from the investment is used for the purpose specified.
Legacies offer a long-range contribution strategy for interested donors. Planned gifts may take the form of a bequest through a will or trust, a gift of property subject to life estate or a gift of life insurance.
Your generous tax-deductible gift will help ensure the future of Salem parks for generations to come. Checks can be mailed to PO Box 5764, Salem, OR 97304.
