Salem's citizens have been fortunate to have such a variety of beautiful park sites. In 1950, there were eight park areas totaling 113 acres. The park system has grown to over 2,200 acres of both developed and undeveloped park land. (view map of developed park sites). The City's park system includes 35 neighborhood parks that meet the basic close-to-home park needs, along with six community and six urban parks which provide a larger variety of park facilities and areas for Salem's many organized recreation and leisure activities. Salem also has wonderful natural areas. Minto-Brown Island Park is our largest park and natural area encompassing 1200 acres of land.
