Information regarding park history has been provided by Salem's most dedicated and foremost authority on the City's park and recreation history, Hazel Waltz. Hazel began as secretary in 1954, when the Salem Parks Department was established. On December 30, 1976, Hazel retired after 22 years of services as Secretary to the Parks and Recreation Director.
