Fire hydrants are painted to make them more visible in the event of an emergency situation, making this a very valuable project to undertake. This is also a great group project!
To date, volunteers have painted more than 5,100 of the hydrants in the city, with many of those in need of being painted again. Painting resumes each year as soon as weather permits. All equipment to scrape, clean, and paint the fire hydrants is provided by Parks Operations Division.
