Quality of life leads to a quality work force.

"Salem offers the people, business environment, culture and proximity to great engineering schools that allow Garmin to excel as an industry leader.  For these reasons, Garmin is a proud partner of the Salem Community."

      ~ Gloria Bracy,
          Garmin AT

Salem is a city of exciting new neighborhoods, comfortable old communities, and carefully preserved historic buildings.  It’s a city people are drawn to – to drop by, to visit, and to stay.

Salem lies within an hour’s drive of 70 percent of Oregon’s population.  That puts Salem within easy reach of a labor pool, managerial candidates, and a range of educational institutions closely-tuned to the needs of business and industry.

Salem sits at a strategic midpoint between Oregon’s four largest institutions of higher learning: University of Oregon, Oregon State University, Portland State University, and Oregon Health & Sciences University.  At least ten other universities are either within the City, or less than an hour away – which gives businesses in Salem a big talent pool from which to draw.

Quality education starts with our elementary and secondary schools: Of Salem’s eight high schools, three were recently ranked among the top 10 academically in the state.

We train your workforce to order.  Through an exemplary partnership among several Salem organizations, including the community college, we provide the funding, recruitment, and the training to deliver a workforce that’s ready to go when a relocating business opens its doors.

Our job diversity supports economic stability. Salem’s wide range of industries and employers – including, as the state’s capital city, a large base of government workers – provides a good buffer against economic downturns.
