Salem recently became the first state capital in the nation to be named a Green Power Community by the Environmental Protection Agency. The City ranked #9 out of 24.

Constant monitoring at the City's treatment facility and daily routine testing of the water at various sites throughout the distribution system helps ensure that a clean and safe product is being delivered to 177,000 customers and that all federal and state regulations are met. Our Willow Lake Facility’s commitment to excellence is exhibited by the receipt in 2004 of the National Association of Clean Water Agencies Platinum Achievement Award, conferred to facilities that achieve 100 percent compliance with discharge standards for five consecutive years.
