July 6, 2007 - Commercial Fire, McGilchrist

On Friday, July 6, 2007 at 7:14 PM, a first alarm assignment (3 Engines, Ladder Truck, Medic Unit and Battalion Chief) responded to a commercial fire at 1750 McGilchrist Street SE, The Audio Source.

When firefighters arrived on scene, Captain Ty Gunesh reported smoke coming from the rear of the business. A 2nd-alarm was called at 7:28 PM bringing more apparatus and firefighters to the scene. Firefighters had to use forcible entry to gain access to the business which was closed at the time of the fire.

Firefighters entered through the front door and discovered the fire was in the shop area where a Chevrolet Astro van was being. It took 23 Firefighters just 15 minutes to knock down the fire and control the incident. The fire was contained to the room of origin. Due to firefighters actions the rest of the business received only smoke damage.

A Salem fire investigator determined the cause to be electrical.  The loss is estimated at $80,000.
