May 2, 2008 - Commercial Fire -12th Street SE

At 7:35 pm Salem Fire Department responded to an alarm sounding at 4050 12th Street SE, Redwood Heights.  Upon arrival fire fighters discovered smoke throughout  the building. A full alarm was called at 7:39 pm. fire fighters started to evacuate 88 patients from the facility, while also searching for the base of the fire.

A second alarm was called at 7:43 pm and a third at 8:09 bringing more fire fighters and equipment to the scene to assist in the evacuation of the patients and to help suppress the fire.

Cherriots buses were called in to place some of the patients during the time it took fire fighters to fight the fire.

Fire fighters discovered the fire in the 1st floor laundry, where they were able to contain and suppress the fire.

It was determined the fire was started by malfunction of the dryer.  Damage was estimated to be over $10,000.
