October 16, 2007 - Two-Alarm Structure Fire, Snow White Way SE

Two-Alarm Fire Sends Two Fire Fighters to the Hospital
 
On Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at 10:16 AM, a first alarm assignment (3 Engines, Ladder Truck, Medic Unit and Battalion Chief) responded to a structure fire in the 500 block of Snow White Way SE.

When firefighters arrived on scene they discovered the entire back area of the home engulfed in flames. A second alarm was called at 10:21 AM sending more firefighters and fire apparatus to the scene. 

Firefighters aggressively fought the blaze for twenty minutes before it was brought under control.  The fire did spread to the inside the structure, but firefighters were able to contain it before it could do substantial damage to the interior.  Two firefighters were injured while fighting the fire.  Both were transported to Salem Hospital in good condition.

The owner was at home at the time of the fire.  She and her dog were able to escape without injury.  Prior to the fire she stated that she heard a car horn.  Thinking that someone had been in an accident in her front yard, she went to the kitchen window and discovered the fire in her 1998 Jaguar.  The Jaguar was parked in the rear of the house under the carport, the roof of which also served as a second floor deck.

The damage estimate has not been determined at the time of this release, but 4 vehicles including a 1998 Jaguar, 1992 Corvette, 1949 Bentley, and a 1929 replica Mercedes were all a total loss.

It has been determined that the fire started in the Jaguar, but the exact cause is still under investigation.
