Taxes

Welcome to our business-friendly economy

Business

Salem's tax structure is business friendly: no retail sales tax; no business license fee.    Combined, these features reduce the cost of doing business or starting a business in Salem significantly.  Because residents have more available income for making purchases, customers have more funds to purchase your goods and services.

Property, excise and income taxes support a variety of services in the State of Oregon.  Property taxes, paid on assessed valuation of property - not market value, help support police, fire, education, and other services provided by local taxing districts - like the City of Salem.  Excise taxes, at 6.6% of Oregon taxable income, are paid by corporations doing business in Oregon.
