The One Community Initiative operates as a subcommittee of the Human Rights and Relations Advisory Commission (HRRAC). It has grown into a wider effort that crosses all sectors of the community in an effort to achieve the following goals:
Establish a solid community understanding and awareness of the debilitating impact of prejudice, exclusion, and intolerance
Provide opportunity for dialogue and interaction that promotes a safe, respectful, and inclusive community
Develop effective partnerships with a broad base of community organizations to further the promotion of respect and inclusiveness
Develop a comprehensive understanding of the nature and scope of hate activity in the community and existing systems in place to address the problem
Work on the One Community Initiative began in fall 2005, following a series of community forums to give this Initiative momentum. Since then, there have been a series of materials created by multiple teams, especially as we tackle Goal 4. Please feel free to download any and all of these materials on their individual links below:

Community Kick-Off
The One Community Initiative launched its work with a public meeting on Setpember 18. This was an opportunity to share the work of the Initiative and explore ways that the public can be involved in this important effort. If you missed the kick-off meeting and would like more information, contact Marilyn Johnston at mejohnston@cityofsalem.net or 503-588-6261.
