The Neighborhood Task Force has developed recommendations for ways the city can increase communication with Salem residents. Those recommendations went before Council on September 24th, 2007. Four of the recommendations from the Neighborhood Task Force deal specifically with ways the City can increase communication with Salem residents. The City is implementing all of those recommendations:
1. City Council will hold a public communications forum, and, depending on the results, may schedule additional forums where residents and City Council members can interact on a less formal basis than at Council meetings.
2. The City is utilizing different organizing strategies to work with segments of the community geographically affected by different issues. Sometimes this is along the lines of neighborhood associations, and sometimes it is only part of a neighborhood, or may be multiple neighborhoods.
3. Staff is establishing Citizen Involvement Plans for all major items coming to City Council. The plans will include neighborhood associations as a component and make clear statements of when and where citizen input is needed, and the impact/value of that input.
4. The City is developing communication tool(s) to provide citizens with answers about properties in development.
