Economic Development Strategy

Increase support for Urban Renewal projects.

Status Update

Urban Development publishes a quarterly newsletter chronicling Agency goals, projects, initiatives, and accomplishments.  The fall issue was published in mid-October.  Newsletters are distributed to approximately 180 interested citizens via email and an additional 600 are printed for distribution at ten locations including SEDCOR, Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, Coldwell Banker Commercial, the Salem Senior Center, the City Manager’s Office, Public Works and Community Development Department.  The Department also maintains its website with regular updates and new features.

Urban Development has also been involved in other marketing efforts, including the federal lobbying effort under the EDI to describe the Toolbox Program, Parks Connections projects, Mill Creek funding opportunities, and following up with an EDA grant opportunity for Mill Creek Industrial Park. This year staff also had the opportunity to support the Statesman Journal, Mayor’s Conference, and Oregon Business Magazine tours and presentations with project marketing materials.

The Urban Development Department conducts regular outreach activities with Neighborhood Associations, taxing districts, Planning Commission, and the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce.  Staff also assists with marketing efforts to prospective developers and businesses interested in development at Mill Creek Industrial Park. Staff continues to post signs at redevelopment sites acknowledging Agency funding of projects.
