Environment Strategy

Create an off-channel habitat project.

Status Update

The Lower Leffelle and Bush Pasture Park Improvement Project will daylight a section of Clark Creek and create a backwater alcove for an off-channel fish habitat. The backwater will provide a refuge for fish during high flows in Pringle and Clark Creeks. Large wood and boulders will be placed in the new section of Clark Creek and the riparian area will be planted with native trees and shrubs. This is a public demonstration project of what is possible in urban stream habitat restoration combined with stormwater treatment facilities to treat parking lot runoff. Public Works budgeted $100,000 in riparian restoration funds in FY 07/08. Other funding is being pursued in grants from various boards and foundations. In FY 06/07 Grant writing and preparation of final construction documents is expected to be completed. Construction is anticipated in the summer of 2008.
