The Public Works Department, Community Services Department, South Central Association of Neighbors (SCAN), and the Pringle Creek Watershed Council are partnering on a Leffelle Street parking lot improvement project. The project will include paving the current gravel parking lot, redesigning the parking lot for safer circulation of traffic and pedestrians, stormwater treatment bioswales, "daylighting" a section of Clark Creek, riparian restoration, and environmental education. This project will not only provide a functional improvement to parking and circulation, but will also be an educational demonstration project.
The proposed project will treat the stormwater runoff from the new impervious surfaces through the use of bioswales before it discharges to Clark Creek. Approximately 100 feet of Clark Creek will be taken out of a pipe ("daylighted") and restored to a natural channel. Native trees and shrubs will be planted along the new stream banks to provide shade to the creek and habitat for birds. Future interpretive signs will provide information about the project, urban stormwater management, and the Pringle Creek watershed. Construction is anticipated in 2008.
