Livability & Neighborhoods Strategy

Determine a new model for neighborhood associations.

Status Update

In September 2006, City Council created the Neighborhood Task Force to recommend ways to strengthen neighborhood association involvement and participation. Task Force meetings were held January through April 2007, and the Task Force released its report April 6 and presented it in a workshop to City Council on April 23, 2007. Council referred the report to staff for recommendations. On May 29, Council received staff recommendations and voted to hold a public hearing on the matter. Staff and members of the Task Force attended a meeting of each neighborhood association to provide information and answer questions so the neighborhood associations could consider testimony for the public hearing, which was on September 24, 2007. As a result of the public hearing, Council adopted several of the recommendations of the Neighborhood Task Force and returned other items to them for reconsideration when they reconvene in 2008.
