Livability & Neighborhoods Strategy

Pursue railroad quiet zones.

Status Update

To establish"horn-free" quiet zones in urban areas, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requires that specific traffic and pedestrian safety improvements be completed.

During 2007 Public Works Department has reviewed the applicable FRA rules. Funding to design and complete the necessary traffic and pedestrian safety improvements needs to be identified in order to pursue further with FRA, ODOT Rail, and railroad representatives. This funding may be included in a proposed November 2008 General Obligation Transportation Bond.
