No Meth Not in My Neighborhood is a grass-roots effort aimed at reducing and preventing the devastating effects of methamphetamine in our community. City staff sit on the Executive Board of the No Meth – Not in My Neighborhood effort, which meets monthly to address current issues related to meth and to develop strategies and partnerships to combat the effects of this drug.
Salem's Drug Activity Response Team responds to reports of drug complaints involving children within 24 hours. In 2007, DART responded to 833 drug house complaints, arrested 866 persons, and placed 534 children in protective custody. In comparison, for the entire year of 2006, DART responded to 370 drug house complaints, arrested 579 persons and placed 735 children in protective custody. Fraud detectives work with the business community in conjunction with No Meth to train employees how to combat identity theft and forgery.
All City of Salem staff has been trained in the recognition and reporting of drug houses. This is an on-going training provided to all new City of Salem employees.
