Salem's Image Strategy

Market Salem in a way that also appeals to the younger crowd.

Status Update

The Vision 2020 group, Go Downtown Salem!, the Oregon State Fairgrounds and the Salem Convention and Visitors Association are among the groups discussing ways to market Salem broadly including marketing to the younger crowd.  There is good communication among the groups and as specific strategies are prepared, information will be presented to City Council.

In July 2007, the Mayor started a program to offer performers the ability to use the Riverfront Park Ampitheatre without charge on Tuesday evenings.  Groups have been scheduled each available week.  We are considering a proposal to offer a free movie night in Riverfront Park beginning next summer.  There have been a few requests for performers to offer music in downtown alleyways this summer – the performances appeared to be well-received.

Once the numerous planters and trash recepticals were removed from downtown sidewalks, downtown cafes offered additional outdoor eating opportunities which have attracted a younger crowd.
