Salem's Image Strategy

Pursue urban beautification projects.

Status Update

Several different urban beautification projects have been implemented this year.  Using Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) funds, the city has enhanced landscapes and renovated gateways to the city.  In addition, a downtown streetscape improvement project was implemented in the spring.  Twenty new planters, twenty hanging flower baskets, and 55 new waste receptacles that match the city’s old fashioned street lighting were placed throughout downtown.  Finally, in order to improve the look of existing infrastructure, the city has increased the number of times the downtown streets are swept, power washed sidewalks, increased the number of times trash is picked up in the downtown core, and removed all garbage and foliage littering the downtown area in the beginning of the summer.
