FY 2008-09 Five Year Forecast

Budget Division

"Each year, the City Council and Budget Committee review the five year forecast of the general fund in order to gain an understanding of the financial issues facing the City.  Of most immediate interest is the budget for the next fiscal year.  As a result, the forecast serves as a useful tool in helping policy makers give staff direction in preparing the upcoming annual budget.

Decisions made regarding the next fiscal year's general fund budget will impact future years as well.  Forecasting the financial status of the general fund provides the City Council and Budget Committee with a five year look into the future.  A five year forecast illustrates long-term trends and underlying policy issues."

Excerpt from Salem City Manager Robert Wells' transmittal letter for the FY 2008-09 Five Year Forecast .
