NUMBER OF MEMBERS: Seven plus two alternates TERM LENGTH: Two years

The Community Police Review Board is to review unresolved complaints against members of the Salem Police Department. It consists of seven members and two alternate members. The Board is advisory to the City Manager and reports its findings to the City Manager, with a concurrent copy to the City Council. In addition to hearing unresolved complaints, the Board may also: 1) review and advise on Salem Police Department policy and procedure; 2) review and analyze complaint summaries and trends of the department; and 3) refer issues to the Chief of Police. Meetings are generally held on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Board Hearings are held as cases are filed with the Board.

Special membership requirements: City Council shall consider civic participation within the community, residency within the City of Salem, criminal history, commitment to the goals of the Board, ethnic and cultural diversity including demonstrated life experiences or training in cultural or ethnic diversity.
