Transient Occupancy Tax Funding Applications

FY 2008-09 Funding Cycle

Eligible applicants for Transient Occupany Tax funding must be a 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4) or 501(c)(6) at the time of application submission.  Additionally, applications must comply with Section 56 of the City Charter, City Council Policy C-1 and application criteria established by the Cultural and Tourism Promotion Advisory Board.  

Only owners or operators of facilities (as defined in City Council Policy C-1) are eligible to apply for funding of capital asset/improvement projects.  Only owners or operators of facilities or sponsors of special events are eligible to apply for funding to cover event operating expenses.  Special events are defined as performances, conferences, gatherings and other similar events that are of limited duration and are generally sponsored by one or more entities.  To be considered a special event, the event must enhance the quality of life for Salem residents and be the type of event that would reasonably be expected to draw tourists to visit Salem to attend the event.  Both single and recurring events qualify as special events.  Special events are not required to be tied to a facility.

Applicants are limited to one application for each of the below-listed funding categories.
