Parks Operations Division has a contract with Marion County Juvenile Department, Alternative Work Program, to dispose of wood from felled trees.
The Marion County Juvenile Department provides accountability to youth and services to the local community. The staff and youth crews cut the trees into firewood and season it under cover for 12 months. Some of the seasoned firewood is then donated to low income seniors and disabled persons. The rest is sold to the public to pay back victims of youth crime and to help with the cost of the program. Citizens can purchase seasoned cords of firewood from the program, which includes free delivery in town, by calling 503-588-5324. You can also call that number if you have a tree that is already on the ground that you would like to donate. They do not cut down trees, but work with most of the local tree services.

What are park hours?
All neighborhood parks will be signed "Park Closed 10:00 pm to 5:00 am." All other parks will be signed "Park Closed 12:00 am to 5:00 am." Exception will be by permit only.

In off-leash areas, all dogs must:
- be properly licensed and vaccinated
- be leashed prior to entering, and upon leaving, the off-leash area
- stay within the off leash boundaries
- stay away from wildlife, natural areas, pathways, and playgrounds
- not display aggressive or threatening behavior to other park visitors or their dogs
- not bark excessively
In off-leash areas, owners must:
- possess the means for clean up and disposal of dog waste
- be with their pet, and in verbal control of their dog, at all times
- be liable for damage or injury inflicted by their dog
- comply with all other park rules and regulations
Aggressive dogs are prohibited in the parks.

Hog fuel, a generic term for shredded cedar bark, is used as fall material under most of the playground equipment areas, and is purchased from Bark Boys in North Salem. The only exception is under the playground area at the Crooked House Playground in Bush's Pasture Park. That playground has hardwood chips that are paid for by private donations to the Parks Tradition Fund.

Is alcohol allowed in parks?
It is unlawful for any person to possess an alcoholic beverage that is in excess of 14 percent of alcohol by volume in any public park, designated sports field, or city recreation building, except under the authority and in compliance with the conditions of a permit issued by the Director of Community Services, or designee of the Director. Park users are allowed to bring BBQ's to the park. Heat from small tabletop grills can damage the wood table tops and grass when the grills get very hot. Park users are asked to use some sort of insulating material under the grills to prevent damage and dispose of ashes in a responsible manner.
