Current projects include the following:
Hoover School Park UPDATE! The SPF has partnered with the Northeast Salem Community Association to update the aging play equipment at Hoover School Park, located at 1250 Savage NE. To date, $21,300 has been raised toward their project. An additional matching $15,000 has been approved from the City of Salem, Salem Parks Improvement Fund ("SPIF") matching grant.
The City of Salem is currently in the process of applying for a Community Development Block Grant through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). If approved, this grant, along with the SPIF money raised, will completely rehabilitate the park to include a brand new playground, shelter facility, benches and walkways.
Sumpter Park UPDATE!
The SPF is working with the South Gateway Neighborhood Association to replace the play equipment at Sumpter Park that was removed last fall due to safety issues. There is no play equipment at the park at this time. The South Gateway Neighborhood Association's proposal for Salem Parks Improvement Funds ("SPIF") to be dedicated to the replacement of play equipment for Sumpter Park has been approved, contingent upon the raising of matching funds.
As of January 2008, South Gateway Neighborhood Association has raised $22,500 toward their project and have an additional $15,000 in SPIF matching funds. They have been very successful in grant awards and is looking to have play equipment in place summer 2008.
Salem Central Association of Neighbors (SCAN) has been working with the SPF to raise funds for the following projects:
Bush Park Improvement Project: Great strides are underway to raise funds to improve the Lower Leffelle Parking lot. For more information on the project, please call Thom Kaffun at 503-588-6261. Project Information (PDF, 2.2 MB) Project Fact Sheet (PDF)
Bush Park UPDATE!
Path Lighting: Funding is nearly completed to add safety lighting to light one of the well-used paths in Bush's Pasture Park. Having a path lit with historic-looking lampposts is a great amenity that will serve park users, pedestrians, and bicyclists alike along the north-south path from the Bush Barn to Leffelle Street.
This project is currently in the bidding process and is expected to be completed by July 2008!
Fairmount Park Improvements: An effort is currently underway to raise funds to replace the multi use court, the wading pool and the play equipment at Fairmount Park, located at 650 Rural St. S. SCAN and the SPF partnered for the Autumn Flavors event which was held in September 2006 and raised $4000 toward this project.
If you are interested in donating to any of these projects, please contact the Salem Parks Foundation at SalemParks@cityofsalem.net.
