CPTED

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) suggests the arranging of buildings and open spaces can either encourage or discourage crime. Potential offenders are looking for targets of opportunity or soft targets. These criminals are seeking the path of least resistance and CPTED is resistance to these criminals. CPTED can lead to a reduction in the incidence and fear of crime, reduction in calls for police service and to an increase in the quality of life within a community.

CPTED is broken down into four basic areas. Click the links below to learn more:

Natural Surveillance
Access Control
Territorial Reinforcement
Activity Support

Aside from reinforcing your own property, steps can be taken to protect your entire neighborhood. This can be done through a Neighborhood Watch program.
