Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) suggests the arranging of buildings and open spaces can either encourage or discourage crime. Potential offenders are looking for targets of opportunity or soft targets. These criminals are seeking the path of least resistance and CPTED is resistance to these criminals. CPTED can lead to a reduction in the incidence and fear of crime, reduction in calls for police service and to an increase in the quality of life within a community.
