Volunteer:  Mentor

Time Commitment

  • Self-designed schedule with regular weekly meetings with the youth
  • A commitment of up to nine months is encouraged.

Description

  • "Mentoring is a committed relationship between an adult and a youth focused on developing the character, capabilities and potential of the young person.  By definition, a mentor means a wise and trusted friend and guide.  Mentoring, whether it is informal or formal, is a wonderful way for caring adults to make a positive difference in a young person's life."   • Meet with one or more youth face-to-face on a regular basis.
  • Encourage the development of character, capabilities, and confidence of the youth.
  • Activities can vary depending on mentor and youth's interests (examples:  fishing, movies, bowling, reading, lunches, etc.).
