Division Highlights

• The division was honored with a national award in 2006 from the Home Builders Association and with a "Distinguished Community Service Award" from the Salem Sunrise Rotary Club.
  
• The Capital Insurance Office, Inc. upgraded the division's Building Code Effectiveness Grading Classification in 2005 placing it in the top 1.8 percentile in the nation.
  
• We implemented deferred submittal and phased permitting services in 2005 along with the rollout of a new and improved permits data system. We also implemented customized permitting through enhanced and expedited services for projects with special needs.
  
• We were recognized in 2006 by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's publication, "Guide to More Effective & Efficient Building Regulatory Processes Through Information Technology".
  
• The City's active abatement program continues to help Salem to have the lowest number of Methamphetamine contaminated structures for any city of comparable size in Oregon and one of the lowest rates per capita in the state.
