How do I schedule a pre-submittal meeting?

What is a Building and Safety Pre-Submittal Meeting?

Building and Safety Pre-Submittal Meetings are intended to provide early feedback on your building permit package to help ensure there are no unanticipated delays in the projects submittal and review. Building plans that exhibit a high level of complexity (usually commercial, industrial, and multi-family residential) will benefit greatly from a pre-submittal meeting.

Is a Building and Safety Pre-Submittal Meeting for you?

The City of Salem offers a variety of different services for people that want to find out more about developing their property. A Building and Safety Pre-Submittal Meeting is very specific to Building and Safety Submittal packages. Some questions will be better addressed by one of our other services. By answering the following short list of questions, you should be able to determine whether a Building and Safety Pre-Submittal Meeting is beneficial for you.

If you answered No or Unknown to any of the above questions, you will need to address these items before submitting a request for a Pre-Submittal Meeting. City staff are available to assist you at the Permit Application Center located at Salem City Hall, 555 Liberty Street SW, Room 320, Salem; or call (503) 588-6256.

If you answered Yes to all of these items, please feel free to request this service by contacting a Permit Technician at (503) 588-6256 to receive the necessary application. The cost of a Building and Safety Pre-Submittal Meeting is $150.00 to be paid at the time of request. Meetings are scheduled at least one week from the time of request to take place on Tuesday or Thursday mornings at 10:30am. These meetings typically last one hour. Because of limited meeting room capacity, we ask that the applicant's group be limited to five people. If you believe more than five people should attend, please contact the Building and Safety Division so a larger meeting room can be reserved.
