Parks and Recreation Division

The Parks and Recreation Division is divided into two sections:

Recreation Management Services Section

• Aquatics
• Neighborhood Recreation/Sports
• Public Events
• Salem Senior Center
• Softball

Parks Maintenance Management Section

The Parks Maintenance Management Section is responsible for the development, management, and maintenance of a park system encompassing 1,874 acres of park and open space areas with 29.53 miles of trails. These areas provide a backdrop for a wide variety of cultural, recreational, and educational pursuits. Parks Maintenance Management supports City goals and objectives by providing the following services and programs:

• Urban Forestry
• Volunteer Labor Coordination

Parks Planning Division

This division oversees the acquistion and planning of new parks, as well as landscape architecture for existing properties in town.

Salem Housing Authority

The Housing Authority of the City of Salem is a division of the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department, offering rental housing assistance as well as family self sufficiency and homeownership opportunities to low-income households in Salem and Keizer. The Housing Authority was established by the City of Salem in 1969 outside the scope of the City Charter and under provision of State law.
