Mayor's Mile Relays

The "Mayor's Mile" relays will be held in the afternoon, prior to the 5th grade races. For the "Mayor's Mile", each school may enter one girl’s and one boy’s team. These teams can be of any age combination (first-fifth grade). The "1600 qualifier" will put the eight top times, girls and boys, into the final "mile" on the day of the event. For the "Mayor’s Mile" there will be a staggered start, and runners must hold their lanes for one lap and hand off to the second runner, who may then cut into the inside lane without interfering with another runner. Times kept by the City of Salem and the Optimist Club will be considered as the official time.

All participants and on-site alternates will be led to this area as they complete their respective races.

Practice Locations

Teams may use high school tracks on a drop-in basis on weekday evenings or weekends. Willamette University McCulloch Stadium is not available for practices. Please uphold the "No Practice" regulation at McCulloch Stadium. This is out of concern for the safety of the grade school students and Willamette University track athletes. Thank you for your cooperation!
