Success Stories
A new FSS (Family Self-Sufficiency Program) client who came on the program in October 2006 really wanted to go to college. The client was so nervous, she didn’t even know where to start. She did not think that she could even walk in the door of the college, but was tired of working for a family business as there was limited income and no benefits. She was motivated to go to college, but nervous, young, and shy. This client began working with one of the FSS coordinators who got her started in the right direction. The coordinator offered her information on where to go and who to talk to.
The coordinator met with the client numerous times, provided her a shoulder of strength and support, and did more than just point her in the right direction. The coordinator literally took the client by the hand and walked her through every single step, from application to testing, to financial aid. The coordinator even assisted the client with locating the book she needed for class.
The client started part time at ChemeketaCommunity College. This truly was due to the client's own motivation and the huge effort from the FSS Coordinator in making this client's dream a reality.
The client struggled through numerous stumbling blocks, yet never gave up her dream of attending college.
