Success Stories

In spite of staff turnover and illnesses, 53 youth participated in HOME’s tutoring program, begun with a grant from Spirit Mountain. The inconsistency in availability of tutoring made participation by the youth very sporadic, but, within the last few months of the school year, HOME’s staff have seen a steady interest and progress by several of the youth. Many used a dictionary for the first time and found it fun! As the relationship with the tutor developed, the youth became more confident, efficient, and motivated.  Consequently, their performance improved and they were more successful in meeting their goals and seeking additional educational challenges. The vast majority (86%) of those participating met their educational goals. Several expressed disappointment that the tutor would not be available during the summer (due to lack of funding). HOME will start the program again during the next school year.
