The most prevalent successes at the HOST program can be seen when a youth is able to reach the goals that they have determined are most valuable to them. One example of this success involved a fifteen-year-old female who had been living under the Salem bridge with her mother. She was pregnant, homeless, and had no community support or resources. The youth decided she wanted to provide a safe environment for her unborn child, enroll in school, and start to look for employment opportunities. After partnering with HOST’s case manger to explore resources, the youth decided to move to Albany to enter a residential program that works with pregnant and parenting teens and offers education completion, employment search, and a safe place to start to rebuild her future.
