Salem Housing Authority offers programs for seniors, families and individuals with disabilities to enhance quality of life and promote self-sufficiency. Programs are offered at different times based on available funding. The following programs are currently available:
Opportunities and Services for all Clients
Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) Program
Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) is a voluntary program available to residents of public housing and participants in the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program . The FSS program assists families in seeking long term economic independence. Participants must be receiving Section 8 (Voucher) assistance or live in a public housing unit. FSS is for unemployed people or for employed people who want to increase their income.

Homeownership Program
The Housing Choice Voucher Homeownership Program guides participants through the process of purchasing their first home. Participants must hold a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher and are linked with homebuyer assistance programs in the community with the expertise to help families achieve their "American Dream."

Senior Services and Activities
Services and activities are offered at all senior housing sites. Services include group shopping trips, nutrition programs, access to Meals on Wheels, and more. Participation in resident associations provides the opportunity for seniors to coordinate activities such as bingo, exercise classes, card games, potlucks and birthday parties. A part time service coordator assists Englewood East and Englewood West senior residents by providing outreach and linking residents to community services that help seniors maintain their independence as long as possible. SHARP Newsletter.
